During our Science Week Celebrations, our Grade 5 students will host a structured “Buddy Science” session for our Prep students. Working in pairs or small teams, Grade 5 students will design and lead simple, hands-on science investigations that encourage younger students to predict, observe, compare results and share their thinking.
Prep students will rotate through ten short investigation stations, participating in guided experiments that explore observable patterns and relationships in the physical and natural world. At each station, Grade 5 leaders will model safe procedures, support prediction-making and encourage discussion using everyday and emerging scientific vocabulary.
With 60 Grade 5 students and 65 Prep students participating, this initiative will promote leadership, communication and collaboration while explicitly strengthening inquiry skills aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. The session will conclude with a short reflection where Prep students share discoveries and Grade 5 students evaluate how effectively they supported scientific thinking.
