Step into the world of butterflies at DCC!

Join us as we create a Butterfly Conservation Garden designed by students, for students! In this exciting, hands-on project, our Science Club is helping protect some of Victoria’s endangered butterflies, including the Eltham Copper Butterfly and the Golden-rayed Blue Butterfly.

Students will explore how these amazing insects depend on special plants to survive. They will grow native plants like Sweet Bursaria and Creeping Boobialla, then work together to build a beautiful garden where butterflies can live, feed, and breed.

But this is more than just planting! Students will become real scientists by:

  • Investigating how butterflies live and survive
  • Collecting data and observing wildlife
  • Designing signs to teach others about conservation
  • Using cameras to spot and record butterfly activity

The garden will be officially opened during Science Week and will continue to grow as a living outdoor classroom. It’s a place where students can return throughout the year to learn, explore, and care for nature.

This project shows how everyone, even students, can make a difference in protecting our environment. Come and discover how small actions can help save big, beautiful species!
