Our Years 7 to 9 STEM Academy students will complete a Smart Greenhouse STEM project, in which they will grow seeds of their choice—such as barley, wheat, or corn—using the Smart Greenhouse kit. Throughout National Science Week, they will monitor light and soil moisture conditions using Micro:bits. Students will work collaboratively while applying critical and creative thinking skills to solve the given problem. They will develop strategies to successfully grow their plants using the kit’s in-built monitoring systems, focusing particularly on watering and ensuring optimal light and temperature conditions for growth. This project helps students understand key scientific variables—independent, dependent, and controlled—and supports them in designing their own experiments while integrating technology and mathematical skills.
